The series contains film and sound recordings related to the motion picture film, "The President: January, 1968," including silent film footage that was not used in the finished film. The finished film is a narrative account of President Lyndon B. Johnson's activities for the month of January, 1968. The film includes footage of President Johnson at the LBJ Ranch in Texas meeting with advisers, including: Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board William McChesney Martin, Secretary of the Treasury Henry Fowler, Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Secretary of Commerce Alexander Trowbridge, the Chairman of House Ways and Means Committee Wilbur Mills, and Majority Whip Congressman Hale Boggs of Louisiana. Other Texas footage includes: a press conference, attended by Dan Rather, among other reporters; President Johnson and his aides working on the State of the Union Address in the Federal Building in Austin, the presentation of the U. S. Savings Bond Minuteman Award to the Tactical Air Command's 12th Air Force at Bergstrom Air Force Base; and a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol and his wife. There is footage of meetings with Secretaries Robert McNamara, Clark Clifford, and Orville Freeman; Vice President Hubert Humphrey reporting to the Cabinet on his African trip; and meetings about the State of the Union Address with Democratic leaders, in the White House Fish Room, and Republican leaders, including Congressman Gerald Ford, in the White House Cabinet Room. Clips from President Johnson's State of the Union Address are included, along with reactions from Charles Robb, Lynda Johnson Robb, Lady Bird Johnson, and Luci Johnson Nugent, and headlines in news magazines. There is footage of Lady Bird Johnson's Woman Doers Luncheon, attended by singer Eartha Kitt; a reception of newly appointed ambassadors from Gabon, Thailand, Sierra Leone, Maldive Islands, and Barbados; meetings at the White House regarding the USS Pueblo crisis with North Korea; a dinner honoring Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Speaker of the House John McCormack, and Chief Justice Earl Warren in the White House State Dining Room; the signing of the Federal Budget; and the swearing-in of Charles Zwick as Director of the Bureau of the Budget. Finally, there is film footage related to the Tet Offensive in Vietnam.
